In the 2011-2012 year, the technology course for middle school will challenge the students to reach new learning accomplishments through personalized learning paths, E-courses and cloud computing. We will incorporate an environment that will inspire and motivate the students with cutting edge technology concepts.
Personalized learning paths allow students to learn at their own pace not bound to the progress of other students that may be struggling in one area or another. This is accomplished through browser-based programs that meet technology indictors and go at the speed of students to meet the minimum requirements or excel to deeper understanding and accomplishment in that skill.
Demonstrating a passion for technology that will translate into an invigorating learning environment that will match student skills and increase their knowledge of technology is essential.
As an instructor I will engage with all students by creating a shared learning environment; not only consistently monitoring to assist students and ensure proper use of equipment, but allowing students to aid one another as appropriate to create an environment of shared learning, empowering the student to teach and receive from one another. An open time will be scheduled regularly for students to share new technologies they have learned on their own with their peers to foster a mutual learning environment.
All projects will be aligned with indicators created by the ISTE and NETS, and are designed to meet these indicators through the units covered. These units will consist of a combination of specialty projects, online programs and relevant curriculum ensuring a well-rounded experience and education. Students will be assessed and evaluated regularly to ensure the learning process is on track for each learner.
As an instructor I will develop:
an appreciation for diversity
a physically safe and well-maintained learning environment
a relevant and rigorous curriculum
lessons aligned to the current curriculum benchmarks, grade level content expectations
a comprehensive curriculum designed to ensure that all students have opportunities to exceed local, state, and national standards
innovative programs developed from current research and instructional trends.
continuous research, create, evaluate, and adapt best practice instructional strategies to ensure learning for all students.
purposeful use of instructional time
instructional strategies that meet the needs of all learners
ongoing assessments as instruments to design and adapt instruction that ensures quality learning.
formative and summative assessments based on current research
assessments that measure the curriculum
assessments that consider all learning styles
assessment that include multiple levels of thinking
Keyboarding
Keyboarding is an all-year endeavor! We will continue to reach for the goals set by California for our grade levels. Below are the benchmarks for middle school students. Our mission is to surpass these by the end of the school year!
6th Grade:
25 WPM with 90% accuracy.
7th Grade:
30 WPM with with 90% accuracy.
8th Grade:
35 WPM with 90% accuracy
With these in place, I believe, the Technology Lab at CCS will continue
to be a leader in the Chico area for cutting-edge learning.
