The founding pastor of the Neighborhood Church of Chico, Ken Backlund, had a deep respect for education. His desire and educational vision was to partner with a school and preschool where godly principles would be taught alongside strong academics.
Chico Christian School first opened its doors in Fall of 1971 to fifty children between the ages of five and twelve (We began as K-6). In 1984, our nurturing preschool program was added to prepare little ones for life-long learning. Additionally, during the last decade, CCS added an in-demand, high school preparatory middle school, so our students can have one academic home from preschool through 8th grade.
Because of Chico Christian School's dedication to high academic, social, spiritual and athletic standards, we have since grown from fifty elementary school students to a K-8 elementary and middle school of nearly four hundred students on a campus that includes a full-service technology lab, and soon, a state-of-the-art science lab and brand new full-sized gym - now under construction! Many supplementary programs have been added to enhance the strong academics and the spiritual foundation that CCS has always been known for, making Chico Christian School one of the top-scoring, great schools in Northern California.
Over the past four decades, our dedicated staff has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of precious children who have grown into productive, admirable adults. Our vision has been successfully passed along as a light to the community of Chico through the unique gifts each principal and teacher has brought to our gorgeous, 32-acre campus.
Our prayer and hope is that the godly inheritance of Christian virtue and academic strength will continue to pour into the lives of these creative young people as we partner with parents and families to raise up a godly generation of children that are valuable assets to the world we live in!
